JJ Lane’s search to find love was partly documented by Kaitlyn Bristowe on The Bachelorette. But the 37-year old investment banker found his true love in LinkedIn.

Kayla Hughes, Kayla’s wife, told The Knot that JJ had sent her a message via LinkedIn. They met in August 2017 and began a very romantic love story. After nearly a year of dating, the couple got married in January 2019 at sunset on Kauai, Hawaii. Hughes recalls that “he had his family there, and, of course his daughter Gemma,” Hughes said. Lane proposed to his wife with a lab-grown diamond. It was a 2.8-carat diamond solitaire set with small diamonds on a rose-gold band that he created with New World Diamonds. She captioned the post to Instagram, “I said yes” to the man of her dreams and couldn’t wait for the rest of their lives together.

Hughes and Lane were part of The Knot’s Most Influential Weddings of 2019 and Hughes wanted to add drama to the ceremony by customizing a Mindi Linscombe dress. She says that she chose a stunning lace bodice with long sleeves, and a deep V. The skirt was made of form-fitting silk crepe chiffon. The neckline was scalloped with an illusion at the back.
Hughes added a beaded overlay to her gown to give it more “oomph”. Her gown was paired with Bella Belle shoes. Hughes said that the train created the most beautiful effect. Hughes wore a Madi Lane gown for her reception. Madi Lane is an Australian designer who loves a bohemian look.
The bride walked halfway down the aisle.
Hughes decided to walk her own way halfway down the aisle to her husband. This was a departure from traditional practice and a significant emotional decision for Hughes. Hughes says, “I had quite the childhood and unfortunately, I didn’t have a father to walk me down [the] aisle].” “I wanted this moment to be special for me and a symbol of my struggles, my successes and the life lessons I have learned.”
The bride gave her vows to her stepdaughter.
Hughes and Lane wanted Gemma to feel loved and included at the wedding. Gemma is Lane’s 8 year old daughter from a previous relationship. Gemma was invited to the wedding as a junior bridesmaid. This was a sweet way that they achieved this. Gemma was also made an integral part in the wedding by Hughes reading a different set of vows to Gemma’s stepdaughter.

They wanted to show the venue.
The couple decided to forgo boutonnieres in their search to find a smart way to allocate their wedding decor budget. Instead, they put the money towards centerpiece flowers and candlesticks. They also evaluated their venue and decided it was fine to not have a ceremony arbor. Instead, they wanted to showcase the uniqueness of the venue.

Other Bachelor Nation alumni like Jade and Tanner Tolbert were there (Tolbert was one six-man groomsmen who stood beside Lane). Ashley Iaconetti, Jared Haibon and former Bachelor Chris Soules were also present. (Hughes (26), is a sales executive and was once a cheerleader for Kansas City Chiefs.
Both the registry and the escort card display were combined.
Lane and Hughes were creative in directing their guests to dinner and the reception. Hughes says that Hughes used champagne as an escort card display at cocktail hour.

It’s a great way to showcase a couple’s shared interests, such as a love of hot sauce or an outdoor lover. Their choice to use champagne glasses for escort cards was a tribute to their color palette (champagne and nudes with golds and off whites) and their love of celebratory drinks.
